I fill in my username/email, then my password, click sign in, and it doesnt even seem to be attempting to sign in. FaceTime registration validates your Apple ID and email address for use with FaceTime. If it doesnt, you know its not an issue with FaceTime. Use your Apple ID to register and use FaceTime.

I noticed that when I logged in to a Guest account on my mac, FaceTime would log in without issue. Make sure that FaceTime isnt open, then see if your camera works in another app, such as Photo Booth. FaceTime would continually bounce back to the login screen, even though I am sure my account info was correct (working on iMessages, iCloud, and iTunes on my Mac, and FaceTime was working on my phone as well).

I had originally signed in with an Apple ID to my account, so I went in and removed it there. If you have an iPhone or iPad with the latest version of iOS or iPadOS and two-factor authentication turned on for your Apple ID, you can change the Apple ID password for a child account in your Family Sharing group.

My fix was pretty basic, what worked in the end for me was going into System Settings > Users & Groups. I had the same issue, and managed to fix it after a lot of effort.
